Real People Collaboration and Fora Network for Change partnered on a new virtual toolkit for Boards of Directors in the Not for Profit space.
The “Rise on Boards” program provides young gender diverse people with Board of Directors governance training by mentors and then the young directors are paired with a not for profit board of directors for a 1 year term or more. The success of this program and the feedback from young directors provided Fora with imperative knowledge: that most boards of directors DON’T recruit young people, they do not feel that young directors would be dedicated, competant, and capable of making meaningful contributions, and that young directors do not have the skills needed to lead specific roles on a board. As such, Real People Collaboration provided significant research on the composition of boards throughout Canada, participated in key informant interviews with a variety of board members in the not for profit space, and through survey analysis, RPC provided Fora with onboarding, recruiting, equity assessment tools and a By Laws template.
